The Elective class is busy creating and shaping a Nativity Scene to present to our school for Christmas this year.
The class is divided into groups of 4 individuals. Each group has been assigned a character of the Nativity. They are using a hardening clay which they are shaping now. Trial and error are definetely well used tools in this lesson. Following the shaping and hand carving with tools, the clay formations will dry, and then painted. ( Did I mention, repairing the cracks that everyone will be experiencin very soon?)
The paint is a high quality glass/ pottery glaze and will be used outdoors while students are present. Then once dry, one more coat will be applied, thus making our formations water resistant.
We have built the setting for this and built the rock background by hand.
To this point, the students are very proud of their accomplishments, while still finding the excitment in seeing our final display. Once completed, the students will unveil the Nativity Scene with a narative that they have created themselves from research. Look for the date to view soon!!!
