BISHOP’S MONTHLY REFLECTION

“In him and through his blood, we have

been redeemed,

and our sins forgiven,

so immeasurably generous

is God’s favor to us.”

Ephesians 1:7-8

As we welcome this month of July, we acknowledge and adore the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ that saves us from our sins. Let our attention be drawn to the Collect of the Votive Mass of the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ:

“O God, who by the Precious Blood of your Only Begotten Son

have redeemed the whole world,

preserve in us, the work of your mercy,

So that, ever honoring the mystery of our salvation,

we may merit to obtain its fruits.”

These words encourage us as we welcome the second year of the National Eucharistic Revival. It is important that we prayerfully reflect on the following teachings of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in regard to the Eucharist.

DID YOU KNOW…

Catholics are obliged to receive the Eucharist at least once a year, 

preferably during the Easter season. At the same time, the Church

strongly encourages Catholics to receive the Eucharist on Sundays,

feast days and even daily.

THE EUCHARIST BY ANY OTHER NAME…

The Eucharist by any other name is still

the Eucharist. Still, the Church’s use

of different names for the Eucharist

expresses the inexhaustible richness

of the sacrament. For example.

the Eucharist is also known as the

Lord’s Supper, the Breaking of the Bread,

the Eucharistic assembly,

the memorial of the Lord’s Passion and

Resurrection, the Holy sacrifice, the Holy

Divine liturgy, Holy Communion, and even the Holy Mass.

THE FRUITS OF THE EUCHARIST

The Eucharist produces many wonderful fruits:

• Intimate union with Christ (the principal fruit)
• Nourishment for the preservation, increase in renewal of the of grace received at baptism
• Cleansing of our past sins and preservation from future sins – both mortal and venial
• Strength for charity, which wipes away our venial sins
• Unity within the church
• Commitment to the poor

CHRIST’S PRESENCE IN THE EUCHARIST

Christ is present to his Church in his word, in the Church’s prayer

In the poor, the sick and the imprisoned, in the Mass and in all the

sacraments which he instituted. However, he is most especially present

in the Eucharist. In the sacrament of the Eucharist, Christ is not merely

symbolically present, but truly, really, and substantially present, body

and blood with the soul and divinity.

This presence begins at the consecration and lasts as long as the

Eucharistic species of bread and wine exist. Christ is also a wholly present

in the bread and wine together, as well as in them separately. For this

reason, if one were to only receive the bread, she/he would still be

receiving the whole Christ.

In closing, as we anticipate our next celebration of encountering Christ in the Eucharist, let us take to heart the words of the Communion Antiphon of the Votive Mass of the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ:

“The chalice of blessing that we bless

is a communion in the Blood of Christ;

and the bread that we break

is a sharing in the Body of the Lord.” (I Cor. 10:16)

During this month of the Precious Blood, may the Eucharist nourish and strengthen us!

 REFLEXIÓN MENSUAL DEL OBISPO

"En él tenemos la redención 

mediante su sangre, 

el perdón de nuestros pecados, 

conforme a las riquezas de la gracia 

que Dios nos dio en abundancia con 

toda sabiduría y entendimiento”. 

Efesios 1:7-8 

Al dar la bienvenida a este mes de julio, reconocemos y adoramos la Preciosa Sangre de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo que nos salva de nuestros pecados. Pongamos nuestra atención a la “Oración Colecta” de la Misa Votiva de la Preciosísima Sangre de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo: 

"Señor Dios que redimiste a todos los hombres 

con la Preciosa Sangre de tu Unigénito, 

conserva en nosotros la obra de tu misericordia, 

para que, celebrando sin cesar 

el misterio de nuestra salvación, 

merezcamos alcanzar sus frutos.” 

Estas palabras nos animan al dar la bienvenida al segundo año del Avivamiento Eucarístico Nacional. Es importante que reflexionemos en oración sobre las siguientes enseñanzas del Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica con respecto a la Eucaristía. 

SABÍAS QUE... 

Los católicos están obligados a recibir la Eucaristía al menos una vez al año, 

preferiblemente durante la temporada de Pascua. Al mismo tiempo, la Iglesia 

anima encarecidamente a los católicos a recibir la Eucaristía los domingos, 

días festivos e incluso diariamente. 

LA EUCARISTÍA CON CUALQUIER OTRO NOMBRE... 

La Eucaristía con cualquier otro nombre sigue siendo 

la Eucaristía. Aun así, el uso de la Iglesia 

de diferentes nombres para la Eucaristía 

expresa la riqueza inagotable 

de este sacramento. Por ejemplo, 

la Eucaristía también se le conoce como 

La Cena del Señor, la Fracción del Pan, 

la Asamblea Eucaristía, 

el Memorial de la Pasión y 

Resurrección del Señor, el Sagrado Sacrificio, 

La Sagrada y Divina Liturgia, la Sagrada Comunión, e incluso la Santa Misa. 

LOS FRUTOS DE LA EUCARISTÍA 

La Eucaristía produce muchos frutos maravillosos: 

- Unión íntima con Cristo (el fruto principal) 

- Alimento para preservar, aumentar, y renovar la gracia recibida en el bautismo 

- Limpia nuestros pecados pasados y nos preserva de pecados futuros – 

mortales y veniales 

- Fortalece nuestra caridad, la cual borra nuestros pecados veniales 

- Unidad dentro de la iglesia 

- Compromiso con los pobres 

LA PRESENCIA DE CRISTO EN LA EUCARISTÍA 

Cristo está presente en su Iglesia, en su palabra, en la oración de la Iglesia, 

en los pobres, los enfermos y los encarcelados, en la Misa y en todos los 

sacramentos que él instituyó. Sin embargo, él está especialmente presente 

en la Eucaristía. En el sacramento de la Eucaristía, Cristo no está simplemente 

simbólicamente presente, pero verdaderamente, real y sustancialmente presente, en cuerpo, 

sangre, alma y divinidad. 

Esta presencia comienza en la consagración y dura lo que duran 

las especies eucarísticas de pan y vino. Cristo también está totalmente presente 

en el pan y el vino unidos, así como estos, por separado. Por esta 

razón, si una sola persona recibe el pan, él / ella todavía estaría 

recibiendo a Cristo en su totalidad. 

Para terminar, mientras anticipamos nuestra próxima celebración del encuentro con Cristo en la Eucaristía, tomemos en serio las palabras de la Antífona de la Comunión de la Misa Votiva de la Preciosísima Sangre de Jesucristo: 

"El cáliz de nuestra acción de gracias, nos une en 

la Sangre de Cristo; 

y el pan que partimos 

nos une en el Cuerpo del Señor". (I Cor. 10:16) 

¡Que, durante este mes de la Preciosa Sangre, que la Eucaristía nos alimente y fortalezca!
